February 2, 2005
We are sorry to announce that starting from February 2, 2005, registrations are
closed because there is no space enough at the Trieste Astronomical Observatory
for further participants. Later registrations will be put in a waiting list.
March 30, 2005
The registered participants who know that they will not be able to attend
the Workshop are kindly asked to inform us as soon as possible so that we can
give their place to people in the waiting list.
If you can not come, please, send an e-mail to castelli@ts.astro.it
or to bonifacio@ts.astro.it. Thanks!
March 30, 2005 Second Announcement
* The Workshop programme has been finalized and it is now available at
http://wwwuser.oat.ts.astro.it/castelli/at12workshop/program.html
We have allocated quite a lot time for general discussions so that
everybody among the participants can contribute to dissect the workshop topics.
* Presentations
We expect most of the speakers to use their laptops to make a presentation
with their preferred software (KeyNote, OpenOffice, PowerPoint,
AcrobatReader...). Speakers will have a chance to test the connection with
the projector.
If any speaker does not carry a laptop then the best thing would be to put
the presentation on a CD-ROM or USB key so we can transfer it to our computers.
Alternatively presentations can be sent by email before the meeting.
In this case the preferred format is OpenOffice or PDF.
We also plan to have an overhead projector in the case that somebody wants
to use it.
* Laptops
For the participants who will carry a laptop, please make sure that you have
an adapter which will allow you to plug into italian standard socket. Have a
look at http://users.pandora.be/worldstandards/electricity.htm to find more on
this issue. A few sockets will take also Schuko standard plugs.
The voltage is 220 Volts at 50 Hz, please make sure your transformer may accept
this input.
The building where the conference will take place is covered by a wireless access
point and in fact we expect the majority of you to connect in this way, although
a few ethernet cables will be available. If your laptop is not yet equipped with a
wireless card, please consider buying one before the workshop. In Italy the cost of
a card is 30 to 50 euros. If, for some reason, you cannot use a wireless access
please inform us as soon as possible, we shall try to arrange other kinds of access
for you.
Our LAN offers a DHCP service, which will assign you a dynamic IP when you connect,
however we need to register your MACaddress in order to allow you to use this service.
For Linux users you may find the MACaddress by issuing the command
/sbin/ifconfig
The MACaddress is the string which follows the letters HWaddr In order to arrange
everything smoothly please send us via e-mail your MACaddress as soon as possible.
You will be able to connect to our Linux cluster (TRIWULF), where ATLAS 12 and
related codes will be installed and available for use. If your laptop uses
an operating system different from Linux, make sure you have an X-Server,
for Macs it can be downloaded freely from the Apple site
(http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/x11formacosx.html), for Windows there
are several commercial servers. If you do not have an X-server you will be able
to connect only in terminal mode, and will not be able to use the GUI of our
queue system.
* Virtual Posters:
Due to space limitations we cannot display traditional posters, however we invite
participants to present VIRTUAL POSTERS. These will be posted on a dedicated
web page of the conference. Authors of the posters will also be asked to produce a
4 pages article for the Workshop Proceedings, to be published on Memorie della Societa'
Astronomica Italiana Supplementi, indexing and abstracting on ADS is guaranteed.
When the Proceedings are published the virtual poster will be available through the site
of the Memorie della Societa' Astronomica Italiana Supplementi and linked to the
related article.
We expect these virtual posters to be far more visible than traditional posters.
If you wish to present a poster please send title and abstract by June 15th.
A virtual poster may be organized as a traditional poster on a single page of
format A0 or similar, or it may be organized in several pages, like an article.
The authors are free to choose their preferred typographic format. There is
no size limit, however consider that a poster that is of smaller size may be
more easily downloaded and thus is more likely to be read.
The poster MUST be supplied in one of the following electronic formats:
PS, PDF, JPG, GIF, TIFF or HTML. No other format is acceptable !.
We are looking forward to meet you in Trieste !
